Guru Rattana and Her Role in Kundalini Yoga

Kundalini Yoga is an ancient yoga form that only became popular in the United States in recent decades. It was spiritual leader and entrepreneur Yogi Bhajan who introduced Kundalini Yoga to the western world after he founded the 3HO (Healthy, Happy and Holy Organization).

Kundalini pertains to energy that is untapped and found at the base of the spine. This untapped energy can be drawn up through the rest of the body through each of the seven chakras or energy centers. In Kundalini Yoga, focus is given to breath and movement. Breathing techniques complement poses to free energy in the lower body and enable the energy to move upwards. Sequences in Kundalini Yoga often involve rapid and repetitive movements.

Yogi Bhajan founded 3HO in 1969 and a year later completed the first teacher’s training in the United States. He also formed the Kundalini Research Institute in 1971 to formalize the certification and training of Kundalini teachers internationally. Today, there are major international centers in various parts of the world including Singapore, Vancouver, Madrid, Munich, London, Lisbon, Shanghai, Mexico City, Guadalajara and Cape Town. There are also major schools in North American cities like Los Angeles, Boston, Washington D.C., New York, Austin, Atlanta, San Francisco and Phoenix.

Bhajan had many students, but only a few stood out like Guru Rattana. An accomplished writer and teacher, Guru Rattana trained with Yogi Bhajan in 1977 and has since been in the forefront of promoting Kundalini Yoga to the public.

Through various methods, including DVDs and lessons available on Kundalini Yoga superstore Yoga Technology, Guru Rattana has been educating the public on the many benefits of Kundalini Yoga. Yoga Technology is among the most trusted online sources for Kundalini Yoga with a wide range of articles and streaming videos available. It also ships Kundalini Yoga DVDs from popular personalities like Maya Fiennes.
Guru Rattana has also helped to promote Kundalini Yoga through her extensive travels. She has been around the world, teaching many individuals about Kundalini Yoga and its numerous benefits. Additionally, she is a prolific writer and has authored many books. She also edits and writes for an electronic magazine to further promote Kundalini Yoga.

With its many benefits especially in promoting relaxation and good health, Kundalini Yoga is one of the more well-practiced yoga forms in the world. YogaTech will continue to sustain its efforts by promoting this yoga form with its DVD and resource collection at yogatech.com.
